Thanks for the tip, although with CentOS release 5.4 I had to use “/usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server” instead of the original path.

I guess that path depends on the sftp subsystem setting you have in your “sshd_config” file…

For RedHat Enterprise Linux 4.0 the location of the sftp-server is different from CentOS. The script that you need for RHEL 4 is:

Hi,

This is a GREAT summary of how to setup vsftpd on Centos (which actually is the combination of a lot of different softwares and configurations)

Though you might have mentioned or linked to a common vsftpd configuration setup:

e.g. John Pfeiffer’s Linux Tutorials including VSFTPD tips

Also, your IPTABLES command might put it at the end of the rules list (which would come after the DENY)… so perhaps a quick line about iptables -L -n –line-numbers and Inserting?

AND you’d probably need the IPTABLES commands to allow FTP traffic (again inserted before the end of the table)…

AND in case anyone else had the SELINUX blocking your connections you may have to edit /etc/sysconfig/selinux to permissive…

Finally you might suggest Filezilla or another client to test your vsftpd (before the users try it and complain).

I have some strange issues with DNS on CentOS 5.3, but not related to this. First off, you should not be running a caching nameserver due to cache poisoning attacks. Secondly, you can control how various services utilize bind by looking into the /etc/nsswitch.conf file. Within bind, you can specify how your server resolves domain names (bind, db, files (/etc/hosts), etc). Lastly, I believe you may have your server set up to forward requests to your hints file, which essentially forwards all requests for which it is not authoritative to root servers.

I have had the same problems of KWASI.

I solved installing apc from REMI RPM repository with this simple command after updating php

yum –enablerepo=remi install php-apc
